LOVE this comforter -- I have a drafty old house and an old feather comforter -- this one is not QUITE as warm as the feather one, but it's pretty close. It will do for all but the most bitterly cold nights, when I might add a blanket or dress warmer. [NOTE: SEE BELOW, I TAKE IT BACK!] ;-) I actually LOVE that it never seems to make me too hot, as feather/down comforters do. It holds in my body heat, but not excessively. I can use it for fall and spring also, which used to be too warm for the feather comforter, but too cold for just a quilt or blanket.
Also, I love not having to deal with the feathers poking out constantly OR the nasty smell when it gets wet (if you've ever washed a washable feather comforter...ick!) This is also not quite as heavy in weight, so it's much easier for me to get back on the bed in the middle of the night when it falls off (I am quite the leg kicker in my sleep, apparently.) ;-)
I am now officially a convert to synthetic down!
Note: When I first got it, it seemed like it was going to be kind of flat -- as though it had hardly any stuffing in it. It took a few days to fully "fluff up" to its true thickness and warmth.
-----
UPDATE: I actually DID use this comforter on the "most bitterly cold nights," and it kept me warm and cozy! I seriously love this thing more every day...it's just so nice and lightweight. The "down" doesn't move around and need to be repositioned.
I also never noticed before that apparently down must make me sniffle a bit...I must have a minor allergy or something to real down -- this is obviously hypoallergenic.
